The Lafayette Parish Medical Society is an organization of physicians dedicated to promoting the deliver of quality healthcare to the citizens of the acadiana region. The way we practice medicine is being constantly challenged by the people, by the government, and by the law.
By joining the Lafayette Parish Medical Society, you will be supporting professional advocacy efforts locally and at a national level. We send representatives to the Louisiana State Medical Society (LSMS) to help create policies that governs the way we practice medicine in this state. Currently LSMS is very active in preservation of our medical malpractice cap (Act 817). It is constantly being challenged as unconstitutional. The state is also very active with Healthcare Reform legislation.
We also provide social networking opportunities for our physicians in order to develop a sense of community among our healthcare providers. Two general membership meetings are held each year highlighting pertinent healthcare issues. On Doctor's Day we honor physicians who have practiced for more than 40 years of medicine.
It is also our duty to educate and serve our community. We develop public awareness campaign to promote the health of the community such as prescription drug abuse, dangers of riding in an open truck bed, and childhood obesity. The Community Health Clinic was developed by this organization to meet the needs of our uninsured population.
We hope you will actively participate in this society to ensure that the way we practice medicine will deliver the best quality care to the people of Lafayette.
