Community Health Care Clinic Print E-mail

The Community Health Care Clinic was founded by the Lafayette Parish Medical Society under the leadership of then president Dr Terry Crowmwell in 1992. The primary goal of this effort is to make basic health care services accessible to lower income working Lafayette parish residents so that they will remain healthy enough to maintain their jobs, their homes, and their independence.Currently the clinic provides healthcare services valued over $8 million to more than 8,400 working residents of Lafayette.

Mission Statement

The Lafayette Community Health Care clinic is a non-profit organization that provides quality outpatient health care for the eligible working uninsured and develops and provides programs to address community health care needs through collaborative partnerships.

Goals of the Clinic

  1. To help workers to maintain their health so they can stay employed.
  2. Ensure that area employers have a healthy, dependable workforce with which to run their business.
  3. Ensure that new business owners can pursue their dream of business ownership without delays caused by unattended health issues, or using much-needed capital dollars to purchase often-unaffordable health insurance.
  4. Provide local economic development agencies a viable lure to attract businesses to the area.
  5. Provide economic benefits for all by treating uninsured in the most cost-effective manner available at a lower cost than providing basic care through hospital emergency rooms or government run programs.

Volunteers Needed

They are always in need of volunteers. Please consider giving at least one night a year to this important service to our community. If all physicians would volunteer one night a year we could staff all our clinics throughout the year. Physicians are needed to volunteer to provide general medical exams, gynecological exams, preventive health care, and limited eye exams.

What you can expect as a physician volunteer:

  • Patients are ready to be seen at 4:30 pm
  • 2 hours of service time on a clinic night
  • Access to a non-narcotic pharmacy
  • Availability of specialty referral services
